ENMAX CORPORATION
Six community-based organizations awarded funding for energy efficient upgrades

April 30, 2021

The Federation of Calgary Communities and ENMAX are pleased to announce that six community-based organizations will be receiving $40,850 through the Energizing Spaces Fund powered by ENMAX.

Glendale/Glendale Meadows Community Association, Hillhurst Sunnyside Community Association, Good Companions 50 Plus Club, Riverbend Community Association, Alexandra Centre Society, and the Valley Ridge Community Association will receive grants to fund energy efficient appliance replacements and/or outdoor and rink lighting.

"As we emerge from the pandemic, being able to gather safely in community spaces will be more important than ever," said Leslie Evans, Executive Director of the Federation of Calgary Communities. "With the help of the Energizing Spaces Fund and ENMAX, our members are able to make upgrades that make their facilities more functional, lower their environmental footprint and reduce operational costs - and those are things that benefit all residents."

Established in 2015, the Energizing Spaces Fund has distributed grants to 72 community groups across Calgary. The Fund is administered by the Federation of Calgary Communities and is open to all member organizations. Applications are accepted twice a year, in March and September.

"Through the Energizing Spaces Fund, ENMAX is committed to supporting community groups across Calgary in making energy efficient upgrades," said Kara Kingston, Director, Brand and External Relations. "Community centres and facilities play an important role in the health and well-being of our communities, and these energy efficiency investments will have a lasting impact for years to come."

Grant recipient, Bowness Community Association recently used the funding to replace their dishwasher and microwave.

"Without the generous support from ENMAX and the Energizing Spaces Fund, we would not have been able to support a number of programs such as community kitchens, community food programs, and most importantly, our annual Christmas Dinner, soon to return in 2022," said Michelle Dice from the Bowness Community Association. "With these upgraded appliances we will be able to offer more programs and attract more groups to host events in the future."

Applications for the next round of funding will be open in September 2021. To learn more about past recipients or how to apply, visit https://calgarycommunities.com/energizingspaces/
