MidAmerican Energy Company powers clean energy, Green Canyon at the Principle Charity Classic

May 28, 2018

MidAmerican Energy Company will again provide clean, renewable wind energy for the Principal Charity Classic, the annual PGA Tour Champions event, June 5-10 at the Wakonda Club in Des Moines.

Since 2011, MidAmerican Energy has donated renewable energy certificates to the Principal Charity Classic from its Pomeroy wind farm, located in Pocahontas and Calhoun counties in Iowa, to offset the tournament's electricity usage.

RECs are tradeable, non-tangible U.S. energy commodities that represent an eligible, renewable energy source generated the electricity. In this instance, the certificates verify the Pomeroy wind farm produced the Principal Charity Classic's energy.

"We're pleased to partner once again with the Principal Charity Classic," Kathryn Kunert, vice president of economic connections and integration at MidAmerican Energy, said. "MidAmerican Energy is proud to help power an event that contributes so much to the region and to charitable organizations."

For the third year, the company will sponsor the MidAmerican Energy Green Canyon, which provides fans a spectacular view of the competition. In addition to prime seating, the Green Canyon - which encompasses holes 16, 17 and 18 - features video boards, concession items and the new Camarena Cantina party tent.

"The MidAmerican Energy Green Canyon has been a fan-favorite location since its debut and continues to grow in popularity every year," Sean Sovacool, executive director of the 2018 Principal Charity Classic, said. "It's the perfect location to socialize and cheer on many of the greatest champions of the game."
