Plans for Knockendurrick Wind Farm Gets Community Talking

Residents of Dumfries and Galloway turned out to find out more about a proposed wind farm that stands to make substantial economic and social contributions to the area.

Banks Renewables, the firm behind the Knockendurrick Wind Farm project, welcomed over 50 local residents to Twynholm Village Hall last Monday 23rd January to answer questions about the project, to provide more information about the plans for community involvement and to get direct feedback about the amendments to the proposals.

Jeannie Kielty, community relations manager at Banks Renewables, said: "Banks is committed to involving communities around our projects and working with them to really maximise the opportunities that a project like Knockendurrick presents, so I'm very pleased with the levels of attendance at the exhibition. 

"We have received some really useful feedback!  Local people were interested to learn more about the possibility of their community owning up to 10 per cent of the wind farm too."

Previous feedback from the public and responses from consultees led Banks Renewables to amend its proposal for the site with the reduction of six of the proposed turbine heights from 132m to 115m while the seventh turbine would be reduced from 132m to 100m.

All turbines will also be positioned further to the east than originally planned; increasing the distance from the National Scenic Area and to improve the appearance of the turbines within the landscape setting, in line with comments received from the public and responses from consultees.
