Enel Green Power Brasil donates solar microgeneration system to parque tecnológico da Bahia

March 21, 2017

Enel Green Power Brasil, Enel's Brazilian renewable energy subsidiary, has donated a solar microgeneration system to Parque Tecnológico da Bahia, the state of Bahia's largest centre for research on innovation. The system is already supplying energy to the institution's business incubator unit (ÀITY), which is located in the city of Salvador and is part of the Bahia State Government Department of Science, Technology and Innovation.

"The State of Bahia is a strategic area for Enel in Brazil," said Luigi Parisi, Head of EGPB. "Bahia is currently the state with the largest share of our renewable capacity in Brazil, considering the projects we have operating and under construction. Our support in helping a research centre become more sustainable and efficient strengthens our commitment to innovation and sustainable development in the region."

EGPB financed the installation of the 4.32 kWp photovoltaic system, which was carried out in February. The panels will avoid the annual emission of 3.64 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere. Rodrigo Hita, Head of State Department of Science, Technology and Innovation Office, highlighted the benefits of the system, which "besides reducing the Parque Tecnológico's impact on the environment, the solar system will also contribute to up to 60% of our business incubator unit's energy needs".

A solar energy leader in Brazil and one of the main players in the country's wind power sector, EGPB is investing in renewable energy development in Bahia, where it has a total of nine power plants operating or under construction. EGPB is building three solar plants with a total capacity of 515 MW and three wind farms amounting to 442 MW in the state, including the 254 MW Ituverava facility, the second largest solar plant being built in Latin America. The company also operates another three wind plants in the state that have a total installed capacity of 264 MW.

The Enel Group, through its subsidiaries EGPB and Enel Brasil, has a total installed renewables capacity of 1,302 MW in Brazil - of which 400 MW from wind power, 12 MW from solar PV and 890 MW from hydropower - as well as a further 442 MW of wind projects and 807 MW of solar projects currently in execution.
