SACRAMENTO MUNICIPAL UTILITY DISTRICT
SMUD and the Plug-in Electric Vehicle Collaborative to host electric vehicle ride and drive at California State Fair
Audi e-tron, BMW i3 and MINI Countryman among available vehicles

July 21, 2017

SMUD and the Plug-in Electric Vehicle Collaborative will host an electric vehicle (EV) ride and drive at the California State Fair beginning Thursday, July 20 and ending Saturday, July 22. The event will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, and will be located at the east side of the fair grounds near the racetrack grandstand. The event will feature approximately seven electric vehicles from manufacturers such as BMW, MINI, Nissan, and Ford including several models that can currently be leased for under $200 per month. BMW will also be displaying the latest BMW 740e xDrive iPerformance sedan, its plug-in electric car with a range of 340 miles.

State fair attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions of electric vehicle experts and participate in ride and drives, learn about the different types of charging equipment and much more. Drivers will also learn how they can receive a $599 "Charge Free for Two Years" incentive or a free high-powered EV charger from SMUD when they buy or lease a new EV. In addition, SMUD will provide information about their special electric vehicle discount rate and show drivers how to enter to win a two-year lease on a Nissan LEAF.

The average cost of gas in California is currently about $2.90 per gallon. When EV drivers charge from home with SMUD's special electric vehicle rate, they'll pay around 60 cents equivalent per gallon when charging after midnight. Overall, drivers can save upwards of $1,000 per year by going electric.

SMUD has been a leader in electric vehicle research for over 25 years. During that time, SMUD has worked with major automakers and a wide variety of technology companies to help test and optimize EV equipment and demonstrate real-world effectiveness.

Environmental leadership is one of the SMUD board's core values. SMUD made its original commitment to electric vehicles in 1989 and has continuously supported electric vehicles as they help improve the air quality in the Sacramento region and reduce dependency on oil.
