SAN FRANCISCO PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION
Salesforce Joins CleanPowerSF, Making the City of San Francisco its 100% Renewable Energy Provider

August 23, 2017

Salesforce has joined CleanPowerSF, the City's not-for-profit clean energy program, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) announced today. Salesforce joined the program at the "SuperGreen" level, choosing 100% renewable energy for their buildings located at 50 Fremont and 350 Mission. CleanPowerSF is San Francisco's community choice aggregation (CCA) program that empowers San Francisco residents and businesses to choose cleaner, more renewable energy at competitive rates. Salesforce will be CleanPowerSF's largest SuperGreen customer to-date.

"San Francisco and its partners in the business community are continuing to prove that strong environmental and economic policies are not mutually exclusive," said Mayor Edwin M. Lee. "San Francisco will reach its goal of at least 50 percent renewable energy by 2020 through the help of pioneering companies such as Salesforce. We are proud they are embracing responsible energy plans through CleanPowerSF."

Businesses, like Salesforce, looking to source more renewable energy don't have to look any further than CleanPowerSF. SuperGreen's product offering is currently entirely supplied by Bay Area renewable energy resources (wind and solar). In fact, SuperGreen's solar energy supply is generated right here in San Francisco from the Sunset Solar Array. With CleanPowerSF's SuperGreen service as its energy supply, Salesforce will reduce their CO2 emissions by 1,700 metric tons each year - that's the equivalent of emissions from burning 1.8 million pounds of coal or driving more than 4 million miles in a typical passenger vehicle.

"Salesforce believes that working towards 100% renewable energy across global operations is one of the most important things we can do to address the effects of climate change," said Suzanne DiBianca, Salesforce executive vice president, corporate relations and chief philanthropy officer. "By choosing SuperGreen, we hope to show that when cities and companies work together to reach shared climate goals the partnership has a unique ability to create positive impact that extends to the surrounding communities and ecosystems."

CleanPowerSF also offers competitive rates and currently costs less than other providers. The process of switching from PG&E's electricity supply to CleanPowerSF's supply is seamless and takes no more than a couple minutes. Customers who want to choose cleaner energy at competitive rates can sign-up today at www.cleanpowersf.org.

"At Salesforce, real estate is more than architecture and design. It's about creating a "home" that has a positive impact on all of our key stakeholders, including employees, partners, customers, communities and the environment," said Elizabeth Pinkham, Salesforce executive vice president, global real estate. "Because offices are a physical expression of our values, Salesforce is committed to integrating green building practices into our real estate strategy, including office design, construction and operations."

CleanPowerSF is more than a cleaner energy product; it's a social and economic movement. By giving residents and businesses the tools to reduce their own greenhouse gas emissions, CleanPowerSF is empowering an entire community. That's why Salesforce's decision to choose CleanPowerSF's SuperGreen product is so meaningful. Not only is Salesforce's choice a ringing endorsement of our community's clean energy future, but it's also speaks to the power of community participation. The more businesses and residents that choose CleanPowerSF, the quicker San Francisco will meet its aggressive climate action goals.

"Cleaner energy that costs less - the case for CleanPowerSF could not be clearer, said SFPUC General Manager Harlan L. Kelly, Jr. "For nearly 100 years, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission has been generating and delivering the cleanest energy available in California. With CleanPowerSF, now every San Franciscan will have access to more renewable energy."

CleanPowerSF successfully welcomed its first 75,000 customers across the City in 2016. CleanPowerSF will enroll the remaining eligible customers (approximately a quarter of a million) by 2019. CleanPowerSF also offers a 40% renewable energy program called Green.
