SIEMENS GAMESA RENEWABLE ENERGY
Siemens Gamesa awarded 96.6 MW onshore wind power order in Northern Norway

October 2, 2017

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy will supply the Sørfjord Vindpark onshore wind power plant in Northern Norway with 23 units of their Onshore Direct Drive OptimaFlex wind turbines. The SWT-DD-130 turbines will each feature a rated capacity of 4.2 MW and a 130 meter diameter rotor. All turbines will be installed on towers with 80 meter hub heights. A five year service and maintenance agreement is included.

Installation start is planned for summer 2019 with completion planned for autumn 2019.

"We are proud to deliver the latest innovations from our Onshore Direct Drive platform with the SWT-DD-130 to the Sørfjord Vindpark. They will be installed alongside the Nygårdsfjellet wind power plant which we installed in 2011. We are happy to cooperate with Fortum on the Sørfjord project. Together, we've created a strong foundation to reach Fortum's future ambitions within the generation of renewable energy", says Hans Joern Rieks, CEO of North EMEA, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy.

"Sørfjord Vindpark has attractive, unique wind conditions that will be efficiently harnessed with the Siemens Gamesa machines with Direct Drive and large rotors. This investment decision is a further step in the implementation of our wind growth strategy, in the perspective of building a sizeable scale portfolio in the Nordic area. We believe that wind will be one of the most competitive options to produce energy," says Philippe Stohr, Vice President of Wind Power at Fortum.

The Sørfjord Vindpark project is a part of Fortum's growth strategy in renewable energy. The company is currently investing and increasing its wind energy portfolio in the Nordic countries and in Russia.

The turbines will be installed in the municipality of Tysfjord in Northern Norway, only accessible by boat or helicopter. The closest village is Kjøpsvik, and major city in the area is Narvik. The ground of the site elevation varies between 550 m and 600 m above sea level in the wind power plant area.
