On October 29, 2026, ComEd was been named the recipient of the George Westinghouse Award for Leadership in Innovation at the 2026 Fortnightly Top Innovators Awards. The award recognizes ComEd's Electric Vehicle (EV) Dealer and Service Provider Network (EVSP). Presented by Public Utilities Fortnightly and powered by the Smart Electric Power Alliance (SEPA), the award recognizes the projects, initiatives, partnerships and leaders delivering measurable industry progress.
The EV Dealer Network expands access to EV rebates through participating dealerships. By allowing eligible business and public sector customers to receive rebates at the point of sale, the network helps reduce upfront costs and simplifies the transition to EVs. The EVSP Network connects customers with qualified contractors who understand charging technologies, incentive opportunities and implementation requirements. The network gives customers a clearer path from initial interest to a completed EV project while strengthening the broader EV infrastructure market.
"This recognition reflects ComEd's commitment to making it easier and more affordable for customers to adopt electric vehicles by simplifying access to incentives and connecting customers with qualified service providers," said Melissa Washington, senior vice president of government, regulatory and external affairs. "We're honored to receive this award and remain focused on expanding transportation electrification opportunities that help customers, support Illinois' clean energy goals and deliver lasting benefits to the communities we serve."
Through its EV programs and investments, ComEd is supporting statewide efforts under the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA), which sets a goal of putting 1 million EVs on Illinois roads by 2030. The recognition comes as EV adoption continues to grow across northern Illinois, with more than 184,100 EVs on the road today. ComEd continues to expand programs and investments designed to support EV adoption across northern Illinois. To date, ComEd has provided more than $220M in EV incentives and rebate funding across the region and as part of Phase 2 of the company's ongoing Beneficial Electrification plan, ComEd plans to invest an additional $168M by 2028.
"ComEd exemplifies the leadership and innovation helping move the energy industry forward," said Rachel Bryant, VP and executive editor of Public Utilities Fortnightly. "Through its sustained focus on customer-centered solutions, grid modernization and a more flexible and resilient energy system, ComEd is demonstrating how innovation can deliver meaningful, measurable value for customers and communities."
ComEd was honored alongside other energy industry innovators at the 2026 Fortnightly Top Innovators ceremony on October 29 at the Conrad Hotel in Washington, D.C.
