Residents across the Riverina are invited to immerse themselves in the world of new energy at the Transgrid Discovery Hub to celebrate one year since the opening of the landmark community and engagement centre in the heart of Wagga Wagga.
Birthday celebrations will kick off with a Community Open Day on 15 April, with free food, hands-on activities and demonstrations, as well as an artefact find, decorating wildlife nesting boxes and other aspects of the area's cultural and environmental heritage on offer at the Kincaid Street Hub.
Transgrid's Executive General Manager of Stakeholder, Regulatory and Corporate Affairs Maryanne Graham said: "One year ago, Transgrid opened our first permanent community and engagement facility in NSW and the ACT, and we have been overwhelmed by the support shown by Riverina residents who have flocked to the facility to enjoy all it has to offer.
"Thousands of residents, school students, community organisations, local businesses, landowners and key stakeholders have visited the informative, entertaining and interactive centre, which showcases the Riverina's critical role in enabling Australia's renewable energy future.
"We are now inviting the local community to help us celebrate the one-year anniversary of the Transgrid Discovery Hub, which boasts a fascinating discovery space, facilities for community use, a one-stop engagement centre for landowners and local businesses, and much more."
The Hub offers visitors a unique blend of education and entertainment, featuring interactive demonstrations that explain energy generation and Australia's historic transition to renewables.
Attendees can peddle a kinetic bike to charge their mobile phone, embark on a virtual tour of a high-voltage substation, or play "Energy - the game" to battle fossil fuels and collect renewable energy.
Additional highlights include a yarning circle and bushtucker garden, complete with a Welcome to Country and Dreamtime Story.
EV charging stations and a free Wi-Fi and mobile phone charging bench are popular with students, workers and residents.
Since opening, almost 4,000 community members have experienced the Hub's dynamic offerings.
Riverina community and business organisations have also embraced the facility, which has hosted over 170 meetings, workshops and conferences over the past year. Key industry and government stakeholders from across NSW, Australia and the world have also visited the innovative facility.
"If you have the community at heart, you get great outcomes," Ms Graham said.
"We've pushed the boundaries of what's possible. From building design to community outreach, the Discovery Hub's influence in the community has grown beyond anything we imagined - and it's still growing."
Attendees can look forward to an exciting lineup of activities, including craft stalls, face painting, a virtual reality transmission tower climb, as well as Mad about Science' interactive shows.
The day will also feature equipment displays, hands-on activities, fun competitions and prizes from Hit FM, all along with a sausage sizzle and donuts from Cootamundra Girl Guides.
Join us on Tuesday, 15 April from 10am to 2pm at the Transgrid Discovery Hub, 27 Kincaid Street, Wagga Wagga, to celebrate a year of building connections, innovation, and progress in the exciting journey towards Australia's renewable energy future.
