PGE's Geothermal Innovation Wins Awards at ENSIA 2025

October 6, 2025

PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) (IDX: PGEO) has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering sustainable innovation. At the 2025 Environmental & Social Innovation Awards (ENSIA) held in Jakarta on Monday (September 16th), PGE won the Special Innovation Award in the Food Security category for three flagship programs from three operational areas:

  • PGE Lahendong Area with its Katrili (geothermal silica booster fertilizer) innovation,
  • PGE Ulubelu Area with its Andan Jejama integrative program,
  • PGE Kamojang Area with its Geovert (Geothermal Organic Fertilizer) innovation.

PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk President Director, Julfi Hadi, stated that the 2025 ENSIA award is concrete evidence of geothermal energy's contribution to promoting food security, community welfare, and national energy independence.

"Through the innovations of officers across PGE's operational areas, we want to demonstrate that geothermal energy not only provides green electricity but also brings direct benefits to the surrounding communities," Julfi emphasized.

PGE's geothermal utilization can be directly felt by communities surrounding its operational areas, one example being the Katrili booster developed in the PGE Lahendong Area. Katrili is an environmentally friendly liquid plant booster based on geothermal silica, developed by PGE Lahendong Area in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering, Gadjah Mada University (UGM). By utilizing silica sediment processed using nanotechnology and mixed with chitosan, this innovation provides a solution to fertilizer shortages while increasing agricultural productivity in North Sulawesi.

Meanwhile, the PGE Ulubelu Area, with its Andan Jejama program, which means "let's work together" in Lampung, has become a symbol of cross-sector collaboration. This program encompasses various innovations, including:

  • GeoPertaganik Bestari organic fertilizer based on coffee waste and animal manure, utilization of cooling tower waste for environmentally friendly production houses,
  • Minageo Lestari fish farming,
  • Geothermal Melon precision farming using brine water,
  • Puri Setrayang, which processes harvested produce into healthy food to meet the community's nutritional needs.

All of these initiatives are integrated into the KEMASSARI movement, a collective space for nutrition, family economics, and community-based food security.

PGE Kamojang Area developed Geovert Fertilizer, an organic fertilizer made from Canaya coffee husk waste. This fertilizer's unique feature is the use of geothermal steam in the drying process, accelerating the drying process from 10-14 days to less than 6 hours.
This innovation not only reduces waste but also creates added value for farmers and strengthens sustainable agricultural ecosystems.
