Sweden activates an 89 MW hybrid project combining wind and solar energy.

September 30, 2025
Danish renewable energy company European Energy has launched a solar and wind hybrid park in Sweden. Situated in Kronoberg county, the facility includes a 39.3 MW solar array and eight wind turbines with a capacity of 49.6 MW. This marks European Energy's first hybrid park and took four years to complete, with an estimated annual production capacity of around 126 GWh, enough to power over 25,000 households for a year.

The solar and wind systems are linked to Sweden's electricity grid via a single connection point, which European Energy claims minimizes construction and operational costs. Peter Braun, Country Manager for European Energy in Sweden, noted the benefits of combining solar and wind, as their production times vary solar generates power during the day and summer, while wind is more prevalent at night and in winter resulting in more consistent energy output and better utilization of the power grid.

This development is the first of three planned solar-wind hybrid parks in Sweden; the next one is under construction in Ydre municipality, combining an existing 36 MW wind site with a 38 MW solar array, expected to be operational by 2026.

In the first half of 2025, Sweden installed approximately 430 MW of solar power, as reported by the Swedish solar association Svensk Solenergi. The largest solar project in the country, a 100 MW array by Alight and Neoen, began commercial operations earlier this month.
