Prince Edward visits Seagreen offshore wind operations base at Montrose Port

May 18, 2026

Seagreen Offshore Wind Farm has welcomed His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh to its Operations and Maintenance (O&M) base at Montrose Port, highlighting the port's role as a major hub for offshore wind on Scotland's east coast and home to Scotland's largest operational offshore wind farm.

The visit, hosted by Montrose Port Authority, recognised the port's continued progress in reducing emissions and its importance to the day-to-day operation of Seagreen. Located on the port's South Quay, the Seagreen O&M base supports the safe and efficient running of the wind farm.

During the visit, The Duke met senior figures from Montrose Port Authority, alongside SSE Chief Executive Martin Pibworth and representatives from Seagreen. He also visited the Seagreen control room, where teams spoke about managing offshore operations and coordinating logistics.

The visit provided an opportunity to highlight the wider impact of offshore wind at Montrose Port, including support for long-term investment, skills development and employment, and the port's position as a base for current and future offshore wind projects.

Martin Pibworth, Chief Executive of SSE plc, said:

"We were pleased to welcome The Duke of Edinburgh to our Seagreen Operations and Maintenance base in Montrose, and to highlight the exceptional work of the teams who operate this world-class offshore wind asset every day.

"Seagreen shows what sustained investment and strong local partnerships can deliver. Our long-standing relationship with Montrose Port Authority, alongside SSE's continued investment across Angus, has brought clear economic benefits to the area, while Seagreen plays a vital role in delivering secure, home-grown clean power for Scotland and the rest of the UK."

Ewan Latimer, General Manager of Seagreen Offshore Wind Farm, said:

"It was a pleasure to welcome His Royal Highness to our Seagreen operations base in Montrose and to showcase the vital role the port plays in supporting offshore wind.

"Offshore wind projects like Seagreen deliver far more than clean electricity. They support ports, create skilled jobs and bring lasting benefits to local communities, and we're proud to work in partnership with Montrose Port Authority to achieve this."
