Construction on 200-MW Rose Valley Wind Project Now Underway

June 17, 2026

Ground was broken today (June 15) on the Rose Valley Wind Project. The 200-MW facility is under construction 30 kilometres east of Assiniboia and will operate under a 30-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with SaskPower.

Potentia Renewables Inc., along with their Indigenous partners M-Squared (M2) Renewables, a partnership between Meadow Lake Tribal Council (MLTC) and Mistawasis Nêhiyawak First Nation, will develop, own, and operate the 200-MW wind project through their subsidiary Rose Valley Wind LP.

"The Saskatchewan First Energy Security Strategy and Supply Plan takes an all-of-the-above approach to power generation, and that includes wind projects such as Rose Valley," said Jeremy Harrison, Minister Responsible for SaskPower. "This project is a part of the unprecedented 700 megawatts of new renewable generation currently being built across Saskatchewan, helping ensure a reliable and affordable electricity system, while creating opportunities for Indigenous communities."

"SaskPower is using all tools at our disposal to ensure reliable and affordable power for our customers, while also supporting our growing economy and communities," said Rupen Pandya, SaskPower President and CEO. "Rose Valley will strengthen our diverse grid by supplying low-cost electricity for decades to come."

"Breaking ground at Rose Valley is the culmination of years of collaboration, planning, and partnership," said Ben Greenhouse, Potentia Renewables CEO. "This milestone reflects the dedication of our Indigenous partners, whose ownership and participation through M-Squared Renewables have been instrumental to the project's success, as well as the commitment of our landowners, the local community, and our team. Together, we are building a 200 MW wind facility that will deliver low cost, reliable electricity, create economic opportunities, and contribute to Saskatchewan's energy future. We are proud to celebrate this achievement alongside all those who helped make it possible."

M2 owns 51% of the project, making it the largest Indigenous ownership to date for projects of this size in the province.

"MLTC is very proud as majority owner through M2 Renewables, to participate in this project, which will bring 200 MW of wind energy to power homes, schools and businesses in our province," said MLTC Tribal Chief Jeremy Norman. "For the nine nations of MLTC, we value the opportunity to participate in the provincial economy and continue to develop economic prospect on behalf of our membership. As a partner with Potentia Renewables and SaskPower, we are building Saskatchewan's power future while advancing economic reconciliation and self-determination for Indigenous peoples."

"It is with great honor we congratulate SaskPower, Potentia, MLTC Nations, and Misty Ventures on building this positive relationship through a successful procurement process on these renewable energy projects," said Mistawasis Nêhiyawak First Nation Chief Daryl Watson. "Truth and Reconciliation can occur as we continue to show progress and teamwork."

Rose Valley Wind Facility is expected to be in operation by late 2027. By the time Rose Valley Wind Facility comes online in late 2027, the total amount of wind generation capacity in the province is expected to be 1,217 MW.
