NEW MEXICO
Over 1,000 New Mexicans Enrolled as Solstice Expands Community Solar to El Paso Electric and SPS Customers

May 14, 2025

Community solar provider Solstice is expanding community solar access to customers of El Paso Electric (EPE) and Southwestern Public Service Company (SPS).

Over 1,000 households and businesses have already enrolled in the brand-new New Mexico community solar program through Solstice, reserving their spots in the exciting new program that offers solar savings without the need to install rooftop panels.

"Community solar is gaining real traction across New Mexico," said Sandhya Murali, Co-Founder and CEO of Solstice. "People want to support clean energy. They want lower bills. And they shouldn't have to install a rooftop solar system to get clean energy benefits. That's exactly what we're bringing to EPE and SPS customers starting today."

Solstice has partnered with trusted local organizations to ensure this new wave of solar benefits reaches the communities that need it most. Prosperity Works, New Energy Economy, and the Santa Fe Green Chamber of Commerce are among the organizations joining forces with Solstice to enroll residents and members, especially income-qualified households and small businesses that stand to save the most.

"Community solar is exactly the perfect product for renters, folks who can't install panels on their rooftops, small businesses, and homeowner associations." said Mariel Nanasi, Lead Attorney and Executive Director of New Energy Economy. "It's a tangible, powerful solution that delivers immediate financial savings, equitable access to clean energy, and aligns with our moral values. Why would anyone especially those who don't want to throw their cash away miss the chance to join a community solar garden?"

"Community solar in New Mexico is finally gaining ground, opening the doors to clean, affordable energy for every household regardless of income," added Glenn Schiffbauer, Executive Director of the Santa Fe Green Chamber of Commerce. "This long-overdue step will generate good-paying local jobs, drive economic development across our state, and make solar a reality for the many, not just the few. We're honored to partner with Solstice in making this vision a reality."

Under New Mexico's community solar program, at least 30% of every solar farm's capacity must be dedicated to income-qualified households, who receive a 28% discount on all solar credits applied to their electric bills. Commercial customers like small businesses and nonprofits can also participate, earning a 10% discount while supporting local, renewable power.

Solstice offers dedicated bilingual support in English and Spanish and still has spots available within the PNM, EPE, and SPS service areas. If you're a customer of these utilities, you could be eligible to join and share in the benefits.
