RENEWABLE ENERGY VERMONT
Ready for Sustainable Transportation, REV Applauds Governor's Transportation Bill, Calls on Vermont to REV it up

June 25, 2019

Renewable Energy Vermont (REV) joined Governor Phil Scott and members of the Vermont House and Senate Transportation Committees at today's (6/17) signing of H.529, the annual comprehensive transportation bill, and offered the following statement.

"Recognizing the need for lower cost and carbon free transportation solutions, the Governor smartly proposed the State's first incentive for electric vehicles and continued investments in necessary public charging stations.  As one of the only states in New England without a statewide customer incentive for EVs, Vermont needed this to get back on track.

To reduce the burden on electric ratepayers, the bill creates a much needed path for greater private investment in electric vehicle charging services.  We look forward to seeing more Vermonters saving money and plugging into EVs.

As we move toward achieving 100% total renewable energy, H. 529 inches the state forward.  Enabling all Vermonters to access the cost, health, and time savings electric vehicles provide is crucial, but H.529 is just a modest beginning step, supporting perhaps 400 additional EVs when we need at least 90,000.  The sooner every driver and rider get off fossils, the sooner we all save money and our climate.  Vermont must REV it up urgently to meet its commitments."

Renewable Energy Vermont represents businesses, non-profits, utilities, and individuals committed to reducing our reliance on dirty fossil fuels by increasing clean renewable energy and energy efficiency in Vermont. Vermont's clean energy economy directly enables at least 18,800 jobs at 3,612 businesses, representing approximately 6% of Vermont's workforce. Together, we will achieve 100% total renewable energy (electric, thermal, transportation).
