Alstom signs contract to support the production of CO2-neutral electricity at Mälarenergi power plant in Sweden

Alstom has been awarded a contract to modernise an existing steam turbine at Mälarenergi power plant, in Vasteras, Sweden. Alstom will upgrade two of the steam turbine's three rotors to increase their technical service life and adapt the turbine for the flow of steam from Mälarenergi's biomass boiler, which runs on 100% biofuel. The work will commence immediately to ensure that the steam turbine is ready for operation ahead of the heating season in autumn 2015. The delivery project will be managed by Alstom Power in Norrköping.

"Alstom has developed a unique and attractive technical solution for Mälarenergi that will enable us to continue using this steam turbine for several more years, now only being fed steam from our biomass boiler, which means that the modernised steam turbine will produce fossil-free electricity and district heating," says Nicklas Gunnar, vice Managing Director and Business Area Manager at Mälarenergi.
