- Applicants to 2025 SEAI Energy Awards collectively reduced energy consumption by 26% and saved more than 27 million on energy spend and produced renewable energy equivalent to 67,000 homes annually.
- Laura Heuston, co-founder of Sustainability Works was presented with the prestigious Chair's Award for Outstanding Contribution to Sustainable Energy.
The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) has announced the winners of the 2025 SEAI Energy Awards. There were over 140 submissions to the awards this year across business, community and public sector organisations. The awards celebrate individuals and organisations demonstrate excellence in the drive for reduced fossil fuel usage, reduced emissions, reduced costs and a more resilient economy.
Minister for Climate, Environment and Energy, Darragh O'Brien, T.D presented Wexford Town Sustainable Energy Community with the prestigious Inspirational Sustainable Community Award for their work in reducing energy poverty in deprived areas. The community group identified the challenges faced by homeowners in the local area and helped them avail of energy efficiency grants. The project established best practice in carrying out home energy upgrades in areas of deprivation and has made a significant impact on locals understanding of energy use, tackling energy costs, energy poverty and reducing carbon footprints.
This programme is a great example of how the Government through the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland can support a national movement of communities to plan for their energy future. Through great work and commitment, we have now achieved well beyond our 2025 target and are making great progress towards meeting the 2030 target. This award showcases what is possible when communities get together and their passion and commitment reaches far beyond today. To date, there are 1,070 Sustainable Energy Community groups that have joined the network since the programme started in 2016.Minister Darragh O'Brien T.D
This year's SEAI Energy Awards are truly inspiring. The finalists and the teams they represent are leading the way in their local communities and creating a more secure, sustainable future for us all. The work they are doing is vital. Laura Heuston was presented with the coveted Chair's Award for Outstanding Contribution to Sustainable Energy. Laura was recognised for her work in promoting sustainable practices in business and promoting sustainability in finance and accountancy. Laura is a sustainable finance expert and a co-founder of Sustainability Works, a B-Corp certified consulting firm whose mission is to help Ireland unlock the financial, economic and social opportunities that come from sustainability.
Hosted by journalist Kathriona Devereux this year's ceremony saw a total of twelve awards presented to individuals, businesses, communities, and public sector organisations in recognition of their commitment and dedication to sustainable energy and climate action. Some 37 finalists were selected by expert judging panels for consideration as category winners.
Ireland's energy emissions profile was at the lowest level in over 30 years, as of the end of last year. This is thanks to record levels of solar PV generation retrofitting and further growth in the overall renewable energy share.
This year also saw the inaugural Warming up the Boardroom' awards presented to Maura Moore who serves as the Deputy Chair of NUI Maynooth and Roger Henderson, Network Asset and Investment Director at Northern Ireland Electricity. These awards were part of a pilot initiative between Creative Ireland and SEAI; they were open to the Chartered Directors from the Institute of Directors in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland who participated in the Creative Boardroom Programme.
