FirstGen Geothermal Indonesia and PT DSSR Daya Mas Sakti form strategic partnership to power Indonesia's clean energy transition

November 18, 2025

Corporation ("FirstGen") subsidiary Energy Development Corporation ("EDC"), the largest renewable energy producer in the Philippines, has officially entered into a strategic partnership with PT DSSR Daya Mas Sakti ("DSSR"), a subsidiary of PT Dian Swastatika Sentosa Tbk ("DSSA") part of Sinar Mas, to set out the terms of the strategic partnership for the development of a potential geothermal energy portfolio in Indonesia.

This follows the partnership agreement signed by both parties in August 2025 to mark the beginning of a collaboration aimed at transferring global expertise, enhancing domestic capacity, and unlocking Indonesia's vast geothermal potential in support of the country's energy transition agenda.

Indonesia holds around 40 percent of the world's geothermal reserves, equivalent to 24 gigawatts, but only about 10 percent has been developed. Through this partnership, PT FirstGen Geothermal Indonesia and PT DSSR Daya Mas Sakti aim to accelerate the development of geothermal resources that will contribute to national energy security and provide a sustainable source of clean power.

The joint venture will focus on the development and management of geothermal resources with a combined potential of approximately 440 megawatts, across six strategic fields located in West Java, Flores, Jambi, West Sumatra, and Central Sulawesi.

"Our joint venture with Sinar Mas will allow us to jointly explore and develop geothermal projects in Indonesia. We believe our target sites have a potential to generate 440MW of clean baseload power, with exploration drilling in some of the sites planned to start by next year."

"The Philippines and Indonesia are the key markets that we are focused on at the moment. We are bringing close to 50 years of geothermal experience and expertise to Indonesia. At the same time, we know that there is also a lot that we can learn there, which we may use in the Philippines as we continue to expand our geothermal base in the country in full support of the DOE's call for more geothermal development here," said Jerome H. Cainglet, President and COO of Energy Development Corporation (EDC).

This collaboration is aligned with the Government of Indonesia's strategy to accelerate the country's energy transition, expand the share of baseload renewable energy, and achieve the nation's Net Zero Emissions target by 2060. For PT DSSR Daya Mas Sakti and PT FirstGen Geothermal Indonesia, the partnership is also a demonstration of dedication to deliver clean and reliable power, to strengthen Indonesia's renewable energy capacity, and to create long-term value for communities and the economy. Beyond developing projects, this joint venture embodies a shared vision of contributing to Golden Indonesia 2045 building a resilient, sovereign, and sustainable nation for future generations.
